Today the Michigan Democratic Party unveiled the DeVos "Great Stonewall on China Clock." The "Clock" shows the amount of time that GOP gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos has refused to answer why, as head of Amway, he favored investing in China's economy instead of Michigan's. TRUSCOTT ADMITS DEVOS CUT MICHIGAN JOBS; DEVOS SPOKESMAN SAYS GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE CUT 1,400 MI JOBS WHILE INVESTING IN CHINA 7/20/05

GOP gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos' campaign spokesman John Truscott has finally admitted that DeVos cut Michigan jobs while investing in China. The Detroit Free Press reported that Truscott said that while DeVos was head of Amway nearly 1,400 Michigan jobs were eliminated. For more information, visit: LINK

STABENOW: CHINESE CURRENCY REVALUATION IS ONLY A FIRST STEP 7/21/05

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, who leads the Senate fight against China's policy of illegally holding down the value of its currency, today cautiously welcomed China's revaluation of the yuan but added that much more needs to be done to level the international trade playing field. BREWER CALLS ON MICHIGAN REPUBLICANS TO DENOUNCE ANTI-ISLAMIC STATEMENTS MADE BY GOP REP. TANCREDO 7/22/05

Today Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer called on Michigan’s Republicans to denounce the anti-Islamic statements made by U.S. Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO). During a recent interview, Rep. Tancredo said that the U.S. might "take out (Muslim) holy sites" in response to another terrorist attack on the U.S. When asked if he meant Mecca, Tancredo responded "yeah." GOVERNOR URGES U.S. SENATE TO REJECT EFFORTS THAT WOULD LEAVE GREAT LAKES UNPROTECTED 7/20/05

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued a letter to Senators Ted Stevens and Daniel Inouye of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, urging them to reject an incomplete and inadequate federal ballast water bill in favor of more comprehensive legislation to control and manage aquatic invasive species that plague the Great Lakes and other lakes and rivers nationwide. SENATORS LEVIN, STABENOW ANNOUNCE MICHIGAN PROJECTS INCLUDED IN TRANSPORTATION AND HUD APPROPRIATIONS BILL PASSED BY SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE 7/22/05

U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow today announced the Michigan projects included in the transportation and housing and urban development appropriations bill for fiscal year 2006. The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the spending bill yesterday for the Departments of Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, Housing and Urban Development and related agencies. Increase Minimum Wage To $7.15

The Michigan Democratic Party is currently gathering signatures for legislation to increase the minimum wage in Michigan to $7.15/hr.

It's high time that the stagnant rate of $5.15/hr which hasn't increased in over a decade. The minimum wage, against inflation is the lowest it's been in over 75 years.
